Dr. Ryota Nakamura (Associate Professor at the Hitotsubashi Institute for Advanced Study, Hitotsubashi University) and Dr. Ying Yao (Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Hitotsubashi Institute for Advanced Study, Hitotsubashi University) visited the Ministry of Health of Bhutan from January 20 to 23, 2020. The researchers were accompanied by Masahiro Fujino, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, Japan and Arisa Shichijo, a postgraduate student at the School of International and Public Policy of Hitotsubashi University.
 
The purpose of this visit was to carry out research on cost-effectiveness thresholds in Bhutan at the request of the Ministry of Health of Bhutan. The researchers proceeded with the research project to quantify cost-effectiveness thresholds in Bhutan, which was launched jointly with the Essential Medicines and Technology Division of the Ministry of Health of Bhutan and the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand in July 2019. They also met with the Director-General and officials of the Ministry of Health, Bhutan. They reached agreement to discuss and make preparations for impact assessment of alcohol taxation in Bhutan.
