The Workshop and Symposium: Introduction to Health Technology Assessment (HTA) was held in the City of Manila, the Philippines, from January 7 to 9, 2020. Dr. Ryota Nakamura (Associate Professor at the Hitotsubashi Institute for Advanced Study, Hitotsubashi University) participated in this event as a workshop lecturer and a symposiast.

For the purpose of providing an overview of how to conduct and use health technology assessment (HTA) to support decision-making about health policy at the national level, the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health of the National University of Singapore, the Department of Health of the Philippines, and the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand co-hosted the Workshop and Symposium: Introduction to Health Technology Assessment (HTA). Many researchers and professionals from not only the Philippines but also other Asian countries took part in the workshop and symposium. Furthermore, through the cooperation of the Access and Delivery Partnership, officials of the Universal Health Coverage Agency of Senegal also attended this event. Participants were able to deepen their understanding of the basics of HTA and the adoption of relevant measures in preparation for the introduction of HTA in Senegal.

The HIAS Health takes part in the SAPPHIRE (Southeast Asia Partnership for Policy and Health Intervention Research and Evaluation), which promotes HTA and other health measures mainly in Asia. Furthermore, since 2017, the HIAS Health has been making research-related contributions to the projects to promote universal health coverage (UHC) in Senegal.
