The Prince Mahidol Award Conference 2019 (PMAC 2019), a well-recognized international conferences in the field of Global Health, was held from Jan. 29 to Feb. 3, 2019 at Bangkok, Thailand. From HIAS Health, Dr. Ryota Nakamura (Associate Professor, Hitotsubashi Institute for Advanced Study) participated in the conference and delivered presentations in a parallel session and also in two side meetings.
In recognition of the situation that threats of noncommunicable diseases (NCD) have been rising among low and middle income countries, PMAC 2019 set “The Political Economy of NCDs: a Whole of Society Approach” as the main theme and throughout the conference, health policies, health system reform, and health financing as measures to tackle NCDs were actively discussed.
At present, a research project commissioned by PMAC, “Best buys, Wasted buys, and Controversies in NCD Prevention,” is being carried out by an international group consisting of researchers from Hitotsubashi University, HITAP (Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health), University of Sydney, University of York, University of Toronto, Tufts University, Harvard University, Mahidol University and Public Health England. Dr. Nakamura participated PMAC 2019 as one of the authors of the commissioned research. The research results will be published as research papers in international journals and as a book, etc.
