A two weeks training "Capacity building on the health insurance system" for Senegalese counterparts of the "Project for Strengthening Capacity of Community Health Insurance System and Free Health Care Initiatives in Senegal (Doleel CMU)" was held in Japan from Monday 10 to Friday 21 June, 2019. Two members of HIAS Health, Dr. Makoto Tobe (Human Development Department, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) ) and Prof. Masako Ii (Graduate school of Economics, Hitotsubashi University ), gave lectures on Thursday 13, June and Friday 14, June respectively.
The lecture by Prof. Ii titled "Payment system for medical services: Japan’s experience and examples from developed countries" took place in Chiyoda-Campus of Hitotsubashi University.

This training was organized as a part of "Capacity building on the health insurance system" for Senegalese counterparts of the "Project for Strengthening Capacity of Community Health Insurance System and Free Health Care Initiatives in Senegal (Doleel CMU)" by JICA. Trainees were the Head of Planning Division and the Head of Division of Technical Assistance for Health Insurance from the headquarter of Universal Health Coverage Agency (in French, Agence de la Couverture Maladie Universelle (ACMU)) which is under the control of Senegalese Ministry of Community Development, Social & Territorial Equity and is located in the capital city Dakar, and three Heads of Regional Service of ACMU from Diourbel, Tambacounda and Thiès, that are the three target regions of the project.
The two weeks training, including inspection tours to Nagano Prefecture and Saku Central Hospital as well as lectures in Tokyo, exhaustively covered medical security system of Japan and global; its history, current status and issues.
